Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 16 (ANI): Sanjay Nirupam of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) has taken a jab at UBT leader Aditya Thackeray for his remarks on the Election Commission of India not announcing the Maharashtra election date.
Nirupam dismissed Thackeray’s concerns as “childish” in a tweet on X, accusing the young leader of failing to understand the electoral process.
Nirupam’s response came after Thackeray raised concerns on social media about why the election dates for Maharashtra and Jharkhand were not announced alongside those for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.
Responding to his complaint, Nirupam, in a post on X said, “The youth leader of UBT has made a childish tweet on the announcement of elections in Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana. His complaint is that why the elections of Maharashtra and Jharkhand were not also announced along with it? To clarify their information, here are some facts: Elections in Jammu and Kashmir will have to be held by September, this is the order of the Supreme Court. The term of Haryana Legislative Assembly is ending on 5th November. Whereas the term of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is till 26 November. That means there are still 3 months and 10 days left. As far as Jharkhand elections are concerned, the assembly elections are due on 5 January next year. Why should elections be held early there? Does Hemant Soren agree with him?”
Training guns at Thackeray, Nirupam asked, “Does UBT not want elections to be held in J&K? It is the job of the Election Commission to decide when elections will be held in which state. There is a prescribed procedure for this. Election dates are not announced due to someone’s stubbornness? Since when did UBT become the spokesperson of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha?”
Earlier today, following the announcement of the Election commission of India in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, UBT leader Aditya Thackeray in a post on X said, “Elections can be held in other states, so why the Election Commission’s negative attitude towards Maharashtra? To continue looting of Maharashtra? Why hatred for Maharashtra?”
“Why not Maharashtra in the list of states where elections will be held?” he asked in a post on X.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Friday said that the high demand for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir is the primary reason for not holding elections in Maharashtra.

On being asked about Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, the Chief Election Commissioner said, “Last time, Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections were held together. At that time, J-K was not a factor but this time there are 4 elections this year and 5th election immediately after this, which is to start with J-K, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi. Depending on the requirement of forces, we have decide to conduct 2 elections together. We cannot announce another election in the middle of the Jammu and Kashmir elections,” Kumar said. (ANI)
