New Delhi [India], July 27 (ANI): Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development, Jayant Chaudhary on Saturday said that National Education Policy 2020 includes the provision of sensitising school children for their skill development from sixth grade itself.
Talking to reporters, Chaudhary said, “In the National Education Policy 2020, which will guide our efforts in the education sector of the country for the next decade or so, there is a provision that from the sixth grade onwards, we will sensitize children in the school system itself for their skill development.”
“The Finance Minister has just told in the budget that the workers of the country who are registered in the labour portal also have to be skilled. If you add 30 crore more, then we have been given a very big target to reach more than half of the country’s population through the programmes of our ministry.”
Meanwhile, Addressing India’s demographic advantage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointed out the country’s youthful population as a significant asset.
PM Modi said, “India is a youthful country. It is a huge attraction for the entire world because of its workforce. We should aim to make our youth a skilled and employable workforce. Emphasis on skill, research, innovation, and job-based knowledge is necessary for making Viksit Bharat @ 2047.”
He stressed the importance of equipping the youth with the skills needed to meet future demands and drive economic growth.
Apart from that, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday said that a scheme has been introduced in the budget for skill development in the country under which top companies will provide internships to one crore youth over the next five years. He added that the companies will also give an internship allowance of Rs 5,000 per month.
Speaking to ANI, Mandaviya said, “One scheme has been introduced in the Budget for skill development in the country. Skilling is a requirement of today’s India… Top companies will provide internships to one crore youth over the next five years, with an internship allowance of Rs. 5,000 per month. The package will facilitate employment, skilling and other opportunities for 4.1 crore youth over a 5-year period.” (ANI)
