New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): Delhi LG VK Saxena on Sunday said that he has asked the Divisional Commissioner to submit a report by July 30 into the deaths of three students following flooding in a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, covering every aspect of the tragic incident and assured that the guilty will be brought to book.
“While nothing can bring back the precious young lives lost due to apathy of the administration and criminal misconduct of those running coaching institutions, the responsibility of those who caused the loss of lives will be fixed and the guilty will be brought to book,” the Delhi LG posted on X.
Saxena also expressed anguish over the deaths and termed it “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
“What has been happening is unpardonable and such issues can no more be glossed over. I have asked the Divisional Commissioner to submit a report, covering every aspect of the tragic incident by Tuesday,” he said.
“I am deeply anguished by the death of 3 Civil Services aspirants due to water logging in the basement of a coaching centre and that of another student due to water logging related electrocution. That this should happen in the Capital of India is most unfortunate & unacceptable,” he added.
Delhi Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday said that the government has given instructions to speed up the investigation into the deaths of three students following flooding in a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar.
“It is very unfortunate the way the incident took place. For this, the government has given instructions to investigate it at a fast pace. An investigation is underway to find out the reason for this,” Rai said while speaking to ANI.
He further said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also given instructions to take immediate action against the illegal coaching institutes running in the basement of a building.
Meanwhile, the students are holding massive protests in Delhi’s Old Rajender Nagar area over the deaths of the three UPSC aspirants.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to the RML Hospital for an autopsy. The victims who died in the incident have been identified as Shreya Yadav, a native of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala’s Ernakulam, told DCP Central M Harshavardhan told ANI.
Students are demanding immediate action against the authorities over the incident.
Delhi police also arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where basement flooding due to rains claimed the lives of three students.
The Central Delhi incident comes days after a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in the national capital. (ANI)
