New Delhi [India], July 24 (ANI): Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi mentioned on Wednesday that the legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the right of farmers and that the INDIA alliance will ensure that farmers receive their rights.
Taking to social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The legal guarantee of MSP is the right of farmers. INDIA will ensure that they get this right.”
Speaking to reporters, a farmer delegation said, “Rahul Gandhi understood us. The law that we want to get made has been discussed at length. The Congress party and the other leaders of the INDIA bloc have assured us that they will try to represent our demands in Parliament.”
“Rahul Gandhi has also promised that there will be an investigation into how the Haryana government physically assaulted our farmers,” the delegation added.
Rahul Gandhi expressed that the demands of the farmers will be discussed with other leaders of the INDIA bloc and they will try their best to pressurize the government over the same.
“We have done a full assessment of MSP with legal guarantee. This can be formulated. In the meeting, we decided that we will discuss the strategy with other leaders of the INDIA bloc and we will try to create pressure on the government,” said Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi met with a 12-member delegation of farmer leaders from different states, who apprised him of various issues they have been facing.
After the meeting held at his office in the Parliament House Complex, Gandhi emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to providing a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in their manifesto.
He stated that an assessment has shown that the legal guarantee of MSP can be implemented.
Gandhi further said that the Congress will rally support from other leaders within the INDIA alliance to press the government for this crucial measure to benefit farmers across the country.
“In our manifesto, we have mentioned MSP with a legal guarantee. We have done the assessment and it can be implemented,” Rahul Gandhi said while speaking to reporters after his meeting.
“We had a meeting right now where we decided that we will talk to the other leaders of the INDIA alliance to put pressure on the government to ensure that a legal guarantee for MSP is given to the farmers of the country,” Rahul Gandhi said.
KC Venugopal, Raja Brar, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Dharamvir Gandhi, Dr. Amar Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda, and Jai Prakash were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, the Congress MP alleged that farmer leaders who were invited by him to meet were not allowed inside the Parliament Complex.
Later, the farmer leaders were allowed to come to Parliament only after LoP Rahul Gandhi decided to go outside to meet them.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that because they are farmers, they were being prevented from entering the Parliament premises.
“We had invited them (farmer leaders) here to meet us. But they are not allowing them here (in Parliament). Because they are farmers, maybe this is the reason they are not allowing them in,” he said. (ANI)
