New Delhi [India], May 15 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has moved Supreme Court against Madhya Pradesh High Court’s May 14 order which ordered registration of FIR against him for his remarks against Indian Army Officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi who had briefed the media about Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.
Taking suo moto cognisance of the controversial statement, Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday ordered police to register FIR against the minister. Counsel of Shah will mention the plea for urgent hearing today before the apex court.
On Wednesday, an FIR was registered against him under sections 152, 196(1)(b), and 197(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the High Court order.
A division bench of the High Court had taken suo motu cognisance against him and directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to lodge an immediate FIR.
Office of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, in a post on X, had said, “Following the order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Chief Minister has given instructions to take action regarding the statement of Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah.”
A division bench of Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla heard the matter on Wednesday.
The Court said that if the FIR is not registered by Wednesday evening, the Court may contemplate proceeding against the Director General of Police of the State for contempt of the order.
“The statement made by Minister Vijay Shah prima facie has the propensity to cause disharmony and feelings of enmity or hatred or ill-will between the members of the Muslim faith and other persons who do not belong to the same religion,” the court observed as stated in the order copy.
The Court also directed the AG Office to transmit the order forthwith to the Office of the Director General of Police of the State and ensure that it is done.
The next hearing into the matter is scheduled for May 15 and the court has listed the matter on the top of the list.
The controversy arose after a video clip of Shah’s speech went viral on social media. In his clarification, Shah said his comments were taken out of context and were meant to praise Colonel Qureshi’s bravery.
Speaking to ANI over the row, the minister said, “My entire background is from the military. Many of my family members were martyred and were in the military… Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is above my real sister, who performed the national religion and took revenge on those people. She (Qureshi) is more important than my real sister. I had nothing in my mind; if something slipped out of the excitement and hurt someone, then I would like to apologise from the heart. Not once, but I apologise ten times.
“The minister further said, “I am a patriotic man, and people of every community worked for the nation. If something slipped out in anger and someone felt bad, then I would like to say that I am not a god; I am also a human being. I apologise ten times for it.” (ANI)

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], May 14 (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Wednesday that severe weather conditions would hit parts of Uttarakhand within the next two hours.
According to the weather department’s alert forecast, thunder, lightning, hailstorms, heavy rain spells, and gusty winds ranging between 40 and 50 km/hr were possible in some areas of Dehradun, Pauri, and Tehri.
The IMD alerted that “thunder/lightning/hailstorm/heavy spells of rain/gusty winds (40-50 km/hr) are likely at some places in Dehradun, Pauri, and Tehri during the next 2 hours.”
Local residents were advised to take necessary precautions and avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary.
In Karnataka, heavy rains caused water to enter low-lying areas, flooding several parts of the Hubballi city last night.
In the old Hubballi area, rainwater seeped into houses, causing distress among residents.
A vehicle carrying 13 passengers and two cars plunged into a water-filled service road at the Rayanal underpass on the under-construction Hubballi-Dharwad bypass in outer Hubballi.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
In the early morning hours, two-wheeler riders were seen taking the risk of crossing the waterlogged road as the water level began to recede.
The area’s open gutters are clogged with several feet of dirt and plastic waste, blocking the free flow of rainwater.
As a result, water overflows into homes, causing damage to property and disrupting daily life. (ANI)

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 13 (ANI): Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday convened a review meeting to assess the initiatives and programs of the Panchayat and Agriculture Department.
During a joint press conference with CM Vishnu Deo Sai, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, ” Today, I am happy that under the leadership of PM Modi, we have fulfilled the promise of providing housing to eligible beneficiaries in the state…After the formation of the government, we allocated over 8 lakh houses in Chhattisgarh…In the last government, there was a state scheme to provide houses, but the houses were left half-constructed. I appreciate CM Vishnu Deo Sai for completing the construction of these houses. We have started a new survey for the construction of new houses.”
Meanwhile, the Chhattisgarh government’s “Samadhan Shivir” initiative has achieved significant success in Bastar district, resolving 85% of cases on the spot. The program, which was organised in 13-14 Gram Panchayats of Jagdalpur district, saw over 4,000 applications being addressed, with most cases related to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The Samadhan Shivir initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving public services and addressing the needs of its citizens.
Earlier on May 6, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the Samadhan camps in Kawardha town, a municipality in Kabirdham district, a initiative aimed at addressing public grievances and providing solutions to various problems faced by the people.
CM Vishnu Deo Sai while interacting with people, inquired whether government schemes are reaching them effectively. The CM’s efforts aim to ensure that the benefits of government initiatives are reaching the intended beneficiaries and to identify areas that require further attention. (ANI)
