Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): The death toll of children in suspected food poisoning at Indore’s Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra has now been reported to be six after a high level committee issued an interim report and the number of infected children increased to 53, Indore collector Asheesh Singh said.
All the children are undergoing treatment at Government Chacha Nehru Hospital in the city.
“A high level committee was formed to investigate the incident that occurred at Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra, which included IAS officers and private doctors too so that all the facts came to light. An interim probe has arrived in which it is revealed that one death occurred on June 29 as well. Along with this, there were various flaws related to taking care of children that were also highlighted in the probe report,” Indore Collector Singh said.
“A show cause notice has been issued to the institution into the matter and sought a reply within three days as to why action should not be taken against them. After receiving a reply from them further action will be taken into the matter,” he added.
The total number of sick children who have been admitted to Chacha Nehru Hospital has increased to 53. Of these, 13 children will be discharged from the hospital on Thursday, he added.
“If we talk about the death count then the death occurred on 29 June was not reported to the district administration and the body of the child was handed over directly to the relatives. The post mortem was also not done. So far six deaths have been reported from June 29 to July 2,” the collector said.
On the other hand, in another case of army aspirants staying in hostels of a private coaching academy falling ill in Indore city, the collector said that upon getting the information, a team of doctors reached the hostel and found around 50 students suffering from suspected water infection.
“Some students of a private coaching academy were admitted to hospital and as soon as I got information, a team of doctors reached the hostel and found around 50 students suffering from water infection. All the students were above 18 years old and taking coaching for the military. Most of them were treated in the hostel itself and a few were admitted to the MY hospital. All the students are stable,” Singh said.
“The samples have been collected from the spot but it seems they were infected from water impurity. In view of both the incidents, I have ordered to collect the water samples across the district and sample from the community kitchen or tiffin services. The Municipal Corporation team, food safety officers will investigate and also issue notices if any irregularity is reported,” he added. (ANI)
