Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 3 (ANI): In the wake of recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain provided an update on the security situation, acknowledging ongoing challenges but emphasizing that security and law enforcement agencies maintain the upper hand.
“We have a security situation before us, the degree of which can be argued upon. The truth is, even now, security agencies and law enforcement agencies have the upper hand. There is order in the valley,” Swain stated.
Swain admitted that some foreign terrorists have infiltrated the region, posing a challenge due to Jammu and Kashmir’s long and porous border, which includes forests, rivers, and varied terrain.
“There is order in the valley. The degree of fear is certainly less than what it was 5 years ago and it is evident from the overall rhythm of life that we witness… Some foreign terrorists have managed to infiltrate and all of us in the security establishment have more or less agreed to it and we are aware of it, and we are not shying away from admitting it. We have a long porous border which has forests, nallahs, riverine, and several topography and terrain-related challenges. The enemy has been constantly finding out new ways to push in terrorists so we have a challenge at hand in terms of foreign terrorists primarily. Another challenge is posed by those who support the terrorists after infiltration… Both these challenges are being dealt with firmly and in a planned manner,” he added.
Since June 9, there have been terror strikes at four places in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi, Kathua and Doda, where nine pilgrims were killed, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed, a civilian was injured and at least seven security personnel were injured.
In view of that, Home Minister Amit Shah directed all security agencies of Jammu and Kashmir to “work in a mission mode and ensure quick response in a coordinated manner.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a recent address in Srinagar assured the people of the Union Territory that the government has taken the attacks seriously and will not hesitate to teach a lesson to the enemies.
While addressing a conference in Srinagar, PM Modi said, “The enemies of peace humanity doesn’t like development. Today, they are making their last efforts so that progress in Jammu and Kashmir stops and peace is not established. The government has taken the recent terror attacks very seriously. The Union Home Minister (Amit Shah) has chaired a meeting with the officials of Jammu and Kashmir to review them.” (ANI)
